Troy Athens’ Haley Zemmer: April 16-21 Patch Athlete of the Week
Red Hawks starting pitcher tops Berkley’s Ian Kobernick in a competitive week of voting.
Troy Athens softball player Haley Zemmer won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for April 16-21, earning 48 percent of the 1,697 votes cast this week.
Zemmer, who netted 818 votes, edged out Berkley baseball player Ian Kobernick, who had 32 percent of the votes (559 votes) in a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers.
Zemmer won three games last week for the Athens varsity softball team. She pitched complete games in both games of a doubleheader against Birmingham Groves on Wednesday. She won both, striking out 19 batters over two games.
At the plate, she had an RBI double in the first game. Friday, in a rain-shortened 9-0 win over Stoney Creek, Zemmer struck out nine batters in five scoreless innings.
