Two-time shuttle astronaut and geophysicist Dr. Andrew Feustel will be the featured speaker at Astronomy at the Beach, hosted Sept. 21 and 22 by Kensington Metropark and the Great Lakes Association of Astronomy Clubs (GLAAC).

According to the event website, Feustel, a native of Lake Orion, "will talk about his work repairing the Hubble and installing modules on the International Space Station, as well as the future of space exploration."

Astronomy on the Beach offers something for everyone interested in astronomy. Events begin at 6 p.m. and include night sky simulation tours using a portable planetarium, an introduction to using telescopes, discussions about light pollution and outer space, and a 3D voyage into deep space.

A full events listing is available online

If you don't have a Metroparks pass ($20/year), there's a $4 charge per vehicle at the gate. All events are free. Food will be available for purchase. Organizers recommend bringing bug spray, binoculars, a red flashlight (no white-light flashlights) and clothing appropriate for chilly weather.

    Sounds like a great event.

I think the pass, though, has gone up. I think it is now $25 a year and $5 per vehicle.
