Poll: Was Supreme Court Right to Uphold Obama's Affordable Health Care Plan?

Justices vote 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts the deciding vote, on controversial Obamacare.

The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul mandate to obtain health insurance.

Chief Justice John Roberts was the swing decision in the 5-4 vote on the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010.

The president’s healthcare policy, recognized as his signature legislative achievement, would provide an additional 30 million Americans with healthcare insurance.

The SC was right. We have a huge problem with health insurance in this country and the ACA is at least a start toward fixing it. People who object to "paying for other people's insurance" ought to realize they're doing it anyway. This just brings it out into the open. People who are cared for in emergency rooms have their costs passed on to the insurance companies of people who are covered anyway and then their premiums go up, so why are they complaining? Why not do things the more rational--and humane--way and just cover everybody? When things come home to roost, people pay attention, but it seems to take a disaster in their own family for them to get there. Why do most people like most of the individual provisions of the ACA but say they hate the act itself? Because they don't know what's in it. They need to find out. They might actually profit it from it themselves. Our health doesn't stay the same. Tomorrow we could need something wy don't need today. I learned that the hard way. Hurray for the SC, although I really have no idea why Roberts voted as he did. Total surprise.

Used to be, the government could only take your private property to use for a public purpose (like a school or a road). Now, the government can take your property and give it to another private party, and as long as the new owner pays more in taxes the Supreme Court says that's constitutional. Used to be, the federal government's powers were enumerated and limited, with the Tenth Amendment reserving all residual power to the States and individuals. Now, the federal government's power is unlimited. It can require us to do or purchase anything it wants, or pay a "tax" if we do not. I don't know about you, but I find this frightening. We used to live in a free country. No more, unless and until we elect a new president who will appoint supreme court justices who will restore our constitutional rights and freedoms.
