The 12th annual Ferndale Blues and Music Festival came to a close on Wednesday night with performances by the Ferndale High School and Middle School jazz bands.

The Ferndale Seniors group invited the student bands to perform at the Kulick Center as a way of bringing the generations together.

The two bands, under the direction of Tim Burke, performed in front of a full crowd of senior citizens, parents and other community members. Donations were collected in the Blues Fest blue piggy banks and seniors sold refreshments.

The grand finale event showed that "music transcends all the generations," said Blues Fest co-chair and founder Craig Covey.

Burke thanked the audience for attending. "It's been a privilege playing here," he said.

The 10-day festival raised money for Ferndale Youth Assistance and the Michigan AIDS Coalition.
