Community Bids Farewell to Retiring Ferndale Principal Herb Ivory
An event was held Wednesday evening to celebrate the educator, who has spent more than 40 years with the district.
Students, alumni, co-workers, family and friends came out to Ferndale High School on Wednesday evening for a community event in honor of retiring Principal Herb Ivory.
Ivory, 65, will retire at the end of this month after spending more than 40 years with the district. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1965 and was hired as a social studies teacher there in 1969. He served as principal at Grant Elementary School from 1983-87, assistant principal at FHS from 1988-1997 and principal at FHS from 1998-2012.
Community members filled the auditorium for the event, which included music performed by students and alumni, a "Don't Know Much About Ivory?" trivia game and several speeches.
In an interview with Patch earlier this month, Ivory shared memorable moments, advice for the FHS community and described his plans to continue working with youth. Read the full article here and be sure to add your stories and memories about Mr. Ivory in the comments section.
