Pete's Place in Ferndale Closes Its Doors
The restaurant announced on its web site that it closed Nov. 25 after four and a half years in business.
Pete's Place in Ferndale has closed its doors as of 9 p.m. Nov. 25.
Pete's Place - a Broadway-themed cafe at 1225 Woodward Heights - opened in 2007 by owner Peter Mel. The menu offered a variety of American, Italian, vegetarian and seafood options.
"The last four and a half years here have been some of the most interesting, fun, touching times of our lives," the restaurant wrote in an announcement on its web page. "There have been celebrations of all kinds, and even a proposal or two. Many friendships have been forged that will last a lifetime."
"These walls, and our hearts, will forever hold these memories," the announcement continued. "Thank you all so very much."

A sushi bar? In that location? I can't see it doing well, sadly.

Yes, this is sad news. I feel for the staff - - one month before Christmas. It seems Peter Mel leaves again with a grand finally.

Well at least it didn't go down in "flames" like Backstage Dinner did when it was up and running! Sorry to see it go.

This place was always busy. I am mystified by the economics of running a restaurant! Anytime I read that a sushi bar is opening somewhere my first thought is to wonder what will replace it........

So sad to hear this! Pete's Place was always our go to place when people came to town. I will miss the small, intimate setting. Great food at a great price. You will be missed!

Loved this place and will miss it very much! Was going to call in a order tonight and found out the sad new.
Please don't put a Sushi place in that space, make it something everyone will once again love.

I saw the new sign up in the front of the building today 12/28/12. it is going to be a Chinese & Thai food restaurant.

The sign doesn't reference Chinese food. It says Japanese and Thai. Tokyo Sushi -- a familiar name to sushi lovers in Oakland County. Not fancy schmancy like Inyo (one of my faves for sushi) but great for everyday. I live within walking distance and can't wait for them to open.

They have a website if you are interested in checking out the menu or finding one of the other locations to try before the Ferndale location opens. For those who are willing to give it a chance before deeming it a failure, that is. http://www.haveasushiday.com/. I'm sure Pete's Broadway Cafe faced the same nay sayers who doubted the choice of location -- yet the place was always packed. Christine's Cuisine, the Hilton Road Cafe, Chazzano's -- all gems that have managed to find their niche away from the fashionable downtown area (to the delight of those of us who live on what some consider "the wrong side of the tracks"). If you haven't tried those places, you don't know what you're missing. Though it might shock some, there IS life beyond the few blocks surrounding the 9 Mile and Woodward intersction.
