New Sushi Restaurant Opens in Ferndale

Tokyo Sushi is now open at 1225 Woodward Heights in the former location of Pete's Place.

A new sushi restaurant is open in Ferndale in the former location of Pete's Place, which closed in late November.

Tokyo Sushi is located at 1225 Woodward Heights and offers authentic Japanese and Thai cuisine for dine-in or carry out. It had its soft opening several weeks ago and is planning a grand opening party sometime in the near future.

"I've been cooking for all my life," said owner and chef Chris Sayanthone. He says quality ingredients and excellent service are his focus.

"We do our best to make our customers happy," he said.

Tokyo Sushi has five other locations, including one in Royal Oak. Opening a location in Ferndale was a natural choice because of the "very friendly people" and because it's such a walkable town, Sayanthone said.

Though he's located in a quieter area of town, many residents who live in the area have stopped in and have become regular customers, he said.

"Now they're telling their family. So we are slowly picking up," Sayanthone said. "We're happy to be in town and we'll be looking forward to expand someday."

The business also offers catering and in-home Japanese cooking for parties. For more information or to view the menu, visit www.haveasushiday.com.
