New Record Store Opens Today in Downtown Ferndale
Found Sound, located at 234 W. Nine Mile Road, offers new and used vinyl records.
A new record store is opening today at the former Mother Fletchers location at 234 W. Nine Mile.
Found Sound will offer a large selection of new and used vinyl records, along with some CDs, DVDs, cassettes and more.
"The vinyl is our focus," said store manager Chris Butterfield.
Saturday's grand opening will include a film screening for David Byrne's True Stories at 5 p.m. and live music starting at 9 p.m.
Butterfield said the location is ideal for the new store. "The space is just like amazing, it's a perfect layout for a record store," he said. "I don't think there is a better place to open a store like this in Metro Detroit."
Many of the records at Found Sound were salvaged from the remaining stock of area record stores like Car City Records and Record Time which have closed, Butterfield said.
A renewed interest in vinyl has been growing for the past five years or so, he said, and vinyl has its own "personality to it" that's hard to explain.
"As far as physical music goes, vinyl has been the trend. If people are going to have something physical in their hands they want to have vinyl," he said. "It's more of a listening experience, when you flip the record ... there's something about vinyl that's more sensory."

THANK GOODNESS...The dude at "The Record Collector" is a jerk, inappropriate, shyster. His store is a mess as well so welcome another!

Chris and Ray have a great thing going here. Even though the CD section is maybe a quarter of their shelf space, they have a very good selection, at very reasonable prices. They enjoy engaging with customers, so there's a real nice energy at this spot on Nine Mile.
