Man with Semi-Automatic Rifle Fires Shots Outside Ferndale 7-Eleven

Police said two people were targeted but not injured by a masked man with a semi-automatic rifle around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

OUTSIDE DETROIT -- Police say no one was hurt after a man with a semi-automatic rifle fired up to 10 shots at two people outside the 7-Eleven at Nine Mile and Pinecrest in Ferndale, MI.

Ferndale Police are investigating the incident that occurred around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

Ferndale Police Lt. Casey O'Loughlin said two men approached the 7-Eleven but found the doors locked. One was wearing a Halloween mask and armed with a semi-automatic rifle.

Two younger men approached the store moments later and encountered the suspects. The suspects attempted to rob the two younger men and an altercation ensued, O'Loughlin said.

"The suspect with the rifle fired off 8 to 10 rounds at the two other citizens," O'Loughlin said. The two younger men escaped without injuries, he said.

The suspects fled and a police search, including a K-9 unit, was unsuccessful. No vehicle information is available.

One suspect was wearing a Halloween mask and a red shirt or jacket with stripes on the shoulder. The second suspect was wearing a blue shirt, khaki shorts and a baseball hat. It is not clear whether the second suspect was armed, O'Loughlin said.

"We are still investigating as of this morning," O'Loughlin said.

The 7-Eleven store may have been locked because employees were restocking after the power outages, he said.

The store, located at 1040 W. Nine Mile Road, was open Sunday morning and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Ferndale Police were on the scene.

Anyone with any information should contact Ferndale Police at 248-541-3640.

Those folks working there were blessed. These clowns don't just rob people, they kill them now. I don't know, things are getting worse and the economy is just deep in the tank. Granted its a great possibility these idiots would probably robbed the store regardless of the economy, but just the same things are getting crazy.

I was at a local Ferndale coffee shop and a patron robbed the tip jar and tried to flee. Luckily Ferndale's finest caught the idiot.

Honestly people are raising kids to be criminals instead of human respectful beings. So sad. This needs to STOP. And it starts at HOME! Not with the law. They are there to protect, NOT TO raise these atrocious people we call humans! ugh! SMH!

What a couple of fools. Why bring an assault weapon to rob a place where even if they were open, they would only have at most around $2,000 and are trained by the corporation to hand over the cash if you threatened them with a paper bag. All they did is increase their risk due to penalty, or God forbid things getting out of hand.

And if you think you need an assault weapon to rob a Seven Eleven, why let locked doors stop you?

It reminds me of when the Jet's Pizza on Eight Mile was robbed by those three fools. It doesn't matter if they got away with it. After splitting $2,000 three ways, and deducting the cost of the weapons, they would've made more money at no risk if they had just gotten a couple of minimum wage jobs.

How many times has this place been targeted?! Why there is no guard, I can't imagine. Everyone knows there's bad people out there, why not do everything you can to keep your employees and neighbors safe. SEND A MESSAGE TO PEOPLE CASING THE STORE TO MOVE ON!
I live 2 blocks over and had just put my little girl back in bed when I heard those shots. I knew what it was and could gauge from where. AGAIN. I am sick of this. I sat for 10 minutes gawking out my bedroom window anxious that someone on foot would be escaping down my street, like the pharmacy hold up LAST summer.
