Jordin Sparks, Aretha Franklin 'Sparkle' at Emagine Royal Oak
Music royalty walked the red carpet Sunday at a special screening of the movie 'Sparkle.'
Detroit music royalty joined a former American Idol in walking the red carpet at the Emagine Royal Oak Sunday, posing for photos and talking about their work.
The scene was an invitation-only showing of Sparkle, which stars Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston in her last feature film role.
The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, and legendary Motown singer Martha Reeves joined Sparks for the special screening.
"I am a little nervous to have Aretha Franklin here watching the movie for the first time," Sparks said.
Sparkle is the story of a '60s girl band that was shot in 2011 at area venues including Cliff Bell’s, Bakers Keyboard Lounge and the Masonic Temple.
"There is no other place we would have wanted to do one of these screenings," Sparks said. "This city was so kind to us."
Sparkle is set for release in theaters, including the Emagine Royal Oak, on Aug. 17.
