John F. Kennedy School Principal Resigns

Superintendent accepts resignation of Dianne Shepich after one year as principal of Kennedy.

Ferndale Schools Superintendent Gary Meier accepted John F. Kennedy School Principal Dianne Shepich's letter of resignation at Monday night's school board meeting.

Meier said it is effective June 30, but Shepich has left the school and will be replaced by Pauline Nagle as interim principal. Nagle has served as the Ferndale Schools coordinator of elementary instruction since 2008.

Shepich was not present at the meeting. The district said Shepich resigned to pursue other interests.

Shepich joined the Ferndale School District last year. Prior to that, she was principal at Avondale Meadows Upper Elementary in Rochester Hills.

Nancy DeRousha was the principal at Kennedy before Shepich. DeRousha started in the district in 1985 and retired in 2010.

I think the public should be informed of the real reason why she is no longer there, I doubt this woman had to leave this suddenly. Please get the real story and don't report non-truths!

Michael: At this point, all we know about the former principal of JFK is that she resigned to pursue other things. Since that is all we know, that is all we can report. When we get more information, we will report it.

Thank you.

My daughter goes to JFK and, while I am not saddened by Ms. Shepich departure, I was alarmed by the way that she left the school so abruptly before the school year was over. If it were simply "leaving to pursue other interests" then why didn't she at least wait until the end of the school year and/or inform the parents herself?

I would love to know why this has happened as I am concerned for the education my children receive. Although I am disappointed to see anyone lose their job, I have concerns after watching certain events unfold in regards to parental involvement. We must let educators educate and If this is not happening, we all should be concerned!!

Michael: That's a great point. Do you think parents meddle too much these days? I know JFK's open program is about parental involvement. But do you think at some point parental involvement is too much?

Parents need to be involved and the involvement over at JFK is great, but some things I have witnessed with the PTA and certain activities leave me to wonder. I want my children educated by Educators not by parents who are overstepping boundaries.

Brooke, is there a reason you posted nearly a year after this story was posted? I ask because I'm unsure if it ever came out why she left so abruptly.
