Ferndale's efforts to bring food, water and clothing to those affected by Hurricane Sandy were recently highlighted in the Howell Patch in New Jersey.
Garden Fresh Gourmet founder and president Jack Aronson, Dino's Lounge owner Dean Bach and Ferndale police officer Andrew Wurm - along with many local businesses and residents who generously donated supplies - were all part of the effort.
According to an article in the Howell Patch, Wurm - who plays in a nationwide police softball league with Howell, NJ Police Sgt. Joe Markulic - worked with Markulic to get the supplies where they were needed most.
"In the time of need that's what it's all about," Murkulic told Howell Patch of the help.
Howell Police Sgt. Chris Hill said in the article that the food would be delivered "to everybody that needs it."
"It doesn't have to be any specific group, it's the people that are in need," he said. Read the full Howell Patch story here.
Garden Fresh posted on its Facebook page this week that additional supplies of coats, clothes, blankets, food and water were delivered to a middle school in Lindenhurst, New Jersey. "The community was in tears....thank you sooooo much!!" one resident there posted on the page.
