This is a pet peeve of mine: calling houses "homes." This was a way for the real estate and construction industies to add some warm, fuzzy imagery to their businesses -- and it seems everyone has now gotten in the habit.

A real estate agent cannot sell you a "home." A carpenter cannot build you a "home." Only the people who live in a house can make it a "home."

I can't agree more with you, Patrick. I'm further concerned about how many of these sold houses were foreclosed. As being a part of a community that focuses on being so close to our neighbors, I feel Patch shouldn't be promoting foreclosed home sales. I know Patch is affiliated with AOL and thus AOL Real Estate, but it just doesn't seem right for them to be putting a positive spin on these homes being sold if it meant a family losing their home.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your comment. I hadn't really thought about it that way but I understand what you mean. My parents used to have a plaque with that saying, "a house is made of brick and stone, a home is made of love alone."

Ferndale Resident- We are publishing all of the sold listings and not meaning to put any spin on it one way or another. We are just providing the data.

Thanks Jessica for your response. I suppose I used a poor choice of words- I don't think you, personally, are putting a spin on anything. It's just sad seeing foreclosed houses being lauded as being sold, is all. Thanks again!

Your parents' plaque had it right. So the next article like this on The Patch will say "11 HOUSES that sold in Ferndale," right? ;-)

Ferndale Resident - You're welcome. And, I definitely understand what you mean.

Patrick - We could try that :-) Well, maybe unless there are condos etc. on the list? We do the same for House Hunt.. I think the story says we'll feature "one home or a series of homes each week," and we have included the Lofts on Nine etc. There's always the term "properties." Maybe I'm overthinking it now ;-) I'll for sure be more mindful of the terms!

On a recent one of these posts, my home was mentioned on it, and I was pleased. A home or a house, it really has the same designation. It is a residence, but home just sounds better most times.

I am hoping my "house" will be on here next year. I have had nothing but horrible experiences in ferndale the last two years. I have fixed up my tiny bungalow real cute in hopes it sells next summer. Unfortunately this house will never be a home due to the drug raid nearby and the taft crime. But, I digress. To some Ferndale may be nice, to me it has been a nightmare. Sorry I just ranted, but nothing has been done and I dont feel safe.

In general, Ferndale is a nice place. But being a roughly 2 mile by 2 mile city, unfortunately some areas will be affected by nearby communities and what ails them.
