From Hazel Park to Seattle: Cruisers Have Taken Over
The Woodward Dream Cruise draws people from all over, and Woodard's median in Ferndale is proof.
Frank McCahill and his wife Mary Jo traveled nearly 2,500 miles for the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Robert Gilbert and his two children traveled about 2 miles for the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Cruisers from as far away as Seattle, like the McCahills, and as close as Hazel Park, like Gilbert, were in the median Friday night for the Woodward Dream Cruise in Ferndale.
"We've been into classic cars for years and we even raced for three years," McCahill said of he and his wife.
McCahill grew up in Wayne, MI, but ended up in Seattle, expressing disgust with the Michigan winters. But the Woodward Dream Cruise brought him back.
"We've done it for a couple years and we've always had a good time," he said. "We went to Duggan's (Irish Pub in Royal Oak) last year, but we like this, it's nice here." Here being the median of Woodward in Ferndale.
Gilbert brought his two children down to the Dream Cruise for the first time this year.
"This is their first year," the Hazel Park man said, sitting in a lawn chair. "I've always loved cars, but they like the loud cars."
Gilbert said he doesn't have a classic car but hopes to get one eventually. "I don't have enough money for that yet," he said.
