Ferndale's New Logo, Web Design Presented at Council Meeting
Council members approved graphic design and branding for the new city website on Monday. What do you think of the new look?
Ferndale City Council approved the graphic design and branding for the city's new website at their meeting on Monday night.
Joseph Gacioch, project and grant coordinator for the city of Ferndale, presented images of the proposed redesign and new city logo - which features the letter "F" with a brush stroke of color "to help reinforce the artistic side of the Ferndale community."
Gacioch said the redesign was initiated to address challenges with the current website like being unable to manage content in-house, a non-user-friendly design with little interactivity, and dated graphic design and branding.
"I think we came up with an excellent product that Ferndale can be proud of," he said of the new website design.
The new logo will be used on the website, letterhead and other city materials. The brush-stroke of color is different for each city department: lighter green for City Hall, light orange for DPW, red for the Fire Department, blue for the Police Department and pine green for Recreation.
Council members voted unanimously to move forward with the design and branding.
"I really like the look," said Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter, calling the design "clean and modern."
Mayor Pro Tem Melanie Piana said the new look "has really exceeded my expectations."
Council members also praised Gocioch for his work on the project. "I do want to commend you for all the work you've done on this," Coulter said.
Gacioch said the city hopes to get the new site launched in March 2013.

not crazy about the logo - doesn't really capture the identity of ferndale - too vague

The kerning between the R and the N could use some work, as well as the A and the L. I hope this is just a comp, and they have a graphic artist or agency clean this up.

i should go to cc meetings more often - maybe i sound like a grump - but it seems like there's an "in crowd" there and they just agree with one another. it's rather disconcerting.

I think it's an improvement on the current one for sure. I can't recall if there's been a launch date decided upon for the new city website? I'm guessing in progress if the logo is progressing...The website is really really impossible to use. Facebook/Patch give me way more useful information. :)

I can understand not wanting to be too literal with the name "Ferndale", but really there ought to be some association other than green.

Lifeflong resident here, does not like the logo. The logo should be more distinct to make one think of Ferndale and the years we have been a city.

New website looks great! I'm feeling like and not love towards the new logo. It's, at least, an improvement.

Woodward splits our city with a dash right down the middle. It would have been cool to work that into the logo. The two horizontal lines in place with the vertical spine of the F slash through like Woodward does?
I think a logo contest would have been AWESOME. Do you know how many creative people live here? The people could vote, and the top three get decided upon. Could give some attention to an artist, and the city wouldn't have had to spend however many thousands it could to create this new version. Which sorry, kind of looks like a 90's shoe store.

Agreed. This town is busting with creative artists. Where did that one come from and how much did it cost?

Carey, I agree - a competition would have been great; we have so many artists in our community already.
