Ferndale Public Library Could Have New Director by Saturday
The Ferndale Public Library Board of Trustees held a meet-and-greet Tuesday with library director candidate Kate Pohjola. A decision will be made Saturday to either select her or continue the process.
Pohjola is currently the library director for the Lapeer District Library. She and three other candidates were chosen from among 25 resumes for formal interviews.
Though library officials have said none of the candidates has been ruled out, only Pohjola was asked to come back for a meet and greet.
"There has been no decision at this time," said John Sterritt, president of the library's Board of Trustees.
The board will meet for deliberation at 10 a.m. Saturday at the library. Sterritt said a decision would be made at that time.
"We will decide to accept Kate or reject her, and if we do that, we'll have to look at other candidates," he said.
However, Sterritt said he was impressed with Pohjola. "I was quite impressed with her — her knowledge, her professionalism, her sense of humor," he said.
After the meet-and-greet Tuesday, Sterritt said the board held a second interview in which they focused on two broad areas. "We discussed board relations and management style," he said. "The interview was very warm and relaxed."
