Ferndale Public Library Announces 2013 Summer Reading Challenge

Find out how to participate and what other special programs – including an ice cream social with Treat Dreams and a yoga class for kids – will be available.

The Ferndale Public Library encourages children and families to "dig into reading" this summer by completing the 2013 Summer Reading Challenge.

This year, readers in kindergarten through eighth grade can sign up to read seven books and attend a library program to win a prize. Teens in grades nine through 12 are challenged to read 1,000 pages over the summer and attend meetings for a new Teen Advisory Group forming at the library. The Summer Reading Challenge will also feature special early literacy activities for children ages birth to 5.

Sign up begins Saturday, June 15, and ends Saturday, July 27. Readers must complete the challenge by Saturday, Aug. 3, to claim a prize.

In addition to regularly scheduled story hours and book clubs for kids, this celebration of reading will also feature special programs throughout the summer, including a ice cream social with Treat Dreams, a yoga class for kids, a movement program for children with special needs called DanceAbility and a Super Science Day with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Registration for special programs begins Saturday, June 15.
