Ferndale Library Statement Details Flooding, Repairs, Closure

Exact cause of 15,000 gallon flood still under investigation. City and insurance company will pay for repairs, which will take at least 10 weeks.

The Ferndale Public Library Board of Trustees has issued a statement regarding the estimated 15,000 gallons that flooded the library last weekend, shutting it down for an estimated 10 weeks or more.

The water was discovered Nov. 26, when librarian Pat Lind went in on her day off to check the book depository. The library was to be closed for the entire Thanksgiving weekend.

The concrete is old and porous, according to Board President Ann Warner, so the carpet must be ripped up, the concrete thoroughly dried and new carpeting installed. Add other needed repairs, such as drywall, and the library will be closed for at least 10 weeks.

How much does the library closure mean to you? Tell us in the comments.

WHY ARE THE LIBRARY EMPLOYEES BEING PAID BY TAXPAYER MONEY? THEY SHOULD ALL BE LAID OFF, AND LET THEM COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT JUST LIKE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR. BUT NO, YOU HAVE TO SEE HOW MUCH TAXPAYER MONEY YOU CAN SPEND. I BET THEY WOULDN'T BE PAID IF THE MONEY CAME OUT OF ANN WARNER'S POCKET.

I think you're onto something. I bet they flooded the place on purpose!
