Ferndale City Council OKs Multi-Space Metering Proposal

Council members also approved four special event permits at their regular meeting on Monday evening.

Ferndale City Council approved a proposal for multi-space parking meters Monday evening during their regular meeting.

The proposal, which council members unanimously approved, involves the installation of multi-space meters in all public parking lots in downtown Ferndale at a cost of $329,743.

The project will be fully funded by the city's Auto Parking Fund reserves.

The city will contract with Traffic and Safety Control Systems, of Wixom, for the installation and service.

Ferndale City Manager April Lynch said during the meeting that multi-space parking meters - or pay stations - are expected to improve convenience for residents and visitors (the meters will accept all coins, paper money and credit cards), provide the city with more flexibility in parking rates, increase revenue and offer a safer money management system.

The anticipated date of completion for the project is Nov. 26.

Council also approved special event permits for these events:

  • "Get Reel" Outdoor Movie Night on Sept. 20.
  • Hilton Fall Festival on Oct. 13 on Hilton Road between Sylvan and East Drayton.
  • 2012 Dress Like the Devil, Run for the Angels 5K Run on Oct. 13.
  • 2012 Run Like Hell 5K Run on Oct. 27.

The next Ferndale City Council meeting will be held Sept. 24.

Stay tuned to Ferndale Patch for more information on the new parking meter system.
