1. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Monday, Jan. 21 is a federal holiday marking the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In observance of the holiday, there will be no regular mail delivery and city offices at Ferndale City Hall will be closed. Ferndale Public Schools are also closed on Monday.

2. Straight Talk on Gay Marriage

Ferndale-based attorney Lisa J. Schmidt is hosting a discussion on gay marriage at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at the Ferndale Public Library. Find more information here.

3. Internet safety seminar

The Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative and Ferndale High School, in conjunction with Ferndale Youth Assistance, are inviting parents and adults to attend an Internet safety presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Ferndale High School. Find more information here.

4. Ferndale Blues Festival

The 12th Annual Bud Light Ferndale Blues and Music Festival kicks off Friday and continues through Feb. 6, featuring 75 individual concerts and events in at least 27 venues. The festival is held each winter to raise money for two local charities - Ferndale Youth Assistance and the Michigan AIDS Coalition. Find full details here.

5. Ferndale Schools Extravaganza

Ferndale Public Schools is hosting its annual Extravaganza and All-City Concerts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. The event at Ferndale High School will offer a one-day preview of the all the programs offered by the district from preschool through high school. Find more information here.
