Employee Suspected of Stealing $11,000 in Cell Phones
Ferndale Police are looking for a man who is reported to have stolen $11,000 worth of cell phones from Radio Shack in Ferndale.
Police say a 21-year-old Detroit resident who was working at the store stole the merchandise Tuesday.
According to a report from Ferndale Police, officers responded to Radio Shack on Wednesday on a report that a former employee stole 20 cell phones valued at more than $11,000.
The store manager said the suspect was at work the previous day and left early, according to police. He had left the sales area of the store and was not seen by other employees for a long period of time.
The man reportedly went into the storage room and stole cell phones, according to police. The theft was recorded on surveillance video.
Park benches stolen
Ferndale Police on Wednesday responded to a call on the east side of town at Pickle Park, alongside the railroad tracks, about someone stealing park benches.
By the time police arrived, two men in their 20s had already fled in an older red pickup truck, according to a police report.
The Department of Public Works was advised of the theft and estimated the value of the benches at $1,000, police said. DPW officials said they have had several aluminum benches stolen in the past and they plan to replace the benches with others made of wood.
