Blockbuster in Ferndale to Close

Dish Network is closing 300 Blockbusters stores across the country.

Dish Network Corp, which owns Blockbuster, plans to close 21 stores in Michigan this spring, including the one in Ferndale.

The closures are part of an announced plan to close 300 stores across the country. According to a story in the Detroit News, the closures include stores which were underperforming or were near the end of their leases.

The Blockbuster Video in Ferndale is located at 750 W. Nine Mile Road. Signs on the building announce the closing however a store manager was unable to comment on the closure or what the store's last day open will be.

The corporate office did not immediately respond to a request for information.

About 500 Blockbuster stores were closed last year.
