The top picture was taken nearly three weeks after a Sept. 3 storm blew through Ferndale, knocking down several trees. The bottom picture shows cleanup efforts three days after the storm. The corner is at Leroy and Beaufield.

Nearly three weeks ago, a storm with winds clocked at 70 mph blasted through the area, knocking down dozens of trees and even more branches, pulling down electrical poles and cutting the power to thousands of Ferndale residents.

Some Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge residents were without power for four days.

The cleanup effort continued long after DTE restored power to the last of its customers who suffered storm-related outages.

The damage has been estimated at around $100,000, and to help recoup the costs, Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter declared the city in the state of emergency. As much as $30,000 in state emergency funds may be available to Ferndale if approved.

Damage from the Sept. 3 storm is still visible, albeit much, much tidier.

Here are before-and-after photos taken at Leroy and Beaufield, a corner in Ferndale that was hit particularly hard.
