Beer Store Specializing in Microbrews Coming to West Nine

Can't find that microbrew you had at a friend's house? A store in Ferndale might be able to help you ... once it opens.

Downtown Ferndale is getting a beer store. But it's not really a party store or, if you're from the East Coast, a bodega.

It's a beer store specializing in Michigan and other specialized microbrews. Downtown Development Authority Director Cristina Sheppard-Decius said it's like a beer boutique.

"They just signed on and there is going to be a build out," she said. "Probably six to eight months, sometime in the fall." Sheppard-Decius said she was unsure of what the name of the business will be.

This store will be located at 611 W. Nine Mile Rd., where it will share the space with the Judy Eliyas photography studio. The two businesses will share the facade but the beer store will be in the front and the photography studio will be in the back.

Sheppard-Decius said that, eventually, the owner would like to offer a tap so that patrons may sample beer before they buy or purchase the tapped beer by the growler.

"That's the intent down the road," she said. However, it will be a retail store, not a watering hole, she said.
