Autopsy Results Inconclusive for Ferndale Student
A toxicology report was ordered for Mario Campbell, 16, who died on Thursday during track practice, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Autopsy results were inconclusive for Ferndale High School student Mario Campbell, 16, who died last week at track practice.
A toxicology report has been ordered for the student and could take up to eight weeks before results are available, according to an article in the Detroit Free Press.
Campbell was a junior and member of the track team, according to a statement from Ferndale Public Schools. School officials said he collapsed at school following a training practice on Thursday with the track team.
"Mario was a wonderful student, enthusiastic learner, team player and dedicated friend," Lisa Williams, principal at Ferndale High School, said in a statement. "He always had a smile on his face and a good word to share. We will cherish his memory forever."
FHS Athletic Director Shaun Butler said Campbell was a "hard working, dedicated and determined student athlete."
"He made dramatic improvements in his 400 time last year, and had set his goal to be the top hurdler this season," Butler said. "Mario was quiet, positive, well liked and respected. We will really miss him."
