Update: Power Restored for Most in Ferndale
An area outage on Monday morning affecting 790 customers was caused by equipment failure, a DTE spokesman said.
Update 2:45 p.m.: The number of customers without power in Ferndale is down to 32 as of this afternoon, according to a DTE power outage map.
The area outage had previously affected 790 customers.
Scott Simons, a spokesman for DTE Energy, said the outage was caused by "equipment failure."
"This is the first [larger] outage this summer and after almost two weeks of 90-degree temperatures, the system has been working very well," he said. "We have had isolated situations where there have been power outages but it's not strictly Ferndale that's experiencing this."
He said anyone concerned about power outages in their area can call DTE at 1-800-477-4747.
11:15 a.m.: There are currently 790 customers in Ferndale without power, according to a DTE power outage map.
The area outage is expected to be resolved by 1 p.m., according to DTE.
In June, DTE representatives gave an update on the power situation in Ferndale and its plans to put a new substation in the city. Read the full article here.

I live at Ferndale off of Woodward. There is a down power line at St. Louis and Ferndale. They were working on it at 6am. Hope it gets fixed soon!

Mine went out around 5:30 am but came back on in about an hour. I am on W. Chesterfield. Getting a little sick of our area being the area that keeps getting hit with this. Second time in a week and a half.

What do they mean "This is the first outage this summer."? My power has gone out twice already this summer.

There also was no wind or lightning...the caution tape was around a street light pole after 7am.....so the wire just dropped?! Working very well??!!

I live on fielding and we heard the transformer blow this morning. Our neighbor hears it was a tree limb that fell and pulled the electrical lines from the poles. The fire department and police closed off the street between Edgewood and St. Louis because of the livewire situation, he said.

I'm on West Webster and saw the FFD roping off the area with the down wire. Second outage in a week. I never lost electrical power when I lived in Rochester, and suffer one while living in Grand Blanc. However, I NEVER had any power outage while living in Detroit (streetlights different story--those are covered by PLC, not DTE).
