1. Transit of Venus is Tuesday
On June 5, Venus will pass in front of the sun just as the moon did on May 20. The next Transit of Venus won't be until Dec. 11, 2117. A group of residents will meet at the Ferndale Public Library from 6-7 p.m. to watch the NASA live feed and then host a science fiction book club session - find more information on the event here.
2. Preschool Enrollment
Ferndale Schools are enrolling now for preschool programs beginning in the fall. Preschool options include the Little Eagles Preschool at Harding Administration Center, programs at Grant Early Childhood Center, and a First Fives pre-kindergarten program for 4-year-olds and "young fives." See here for more information or contact the district Enrollment Office at 248-586-8686.

4. Relay for Life of Ferndale
The 2012 Ferndale Relay for Life is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Ferndale High School track. The relay, which raises money for American Cancer Society, so far has 290 participants, 26 teams and the group has raised a total of $39,195. There's still time to get involved by joining a team, fundraising or donating. For more information, call 248-663-3412 or visit the relay's official website.
5. 'Moo Poo' Football Fundraiser
In this annual fundraiser for the Ferndale High School football program, the football field is divided into 2-yard by 2-yard plots and students sell "deeds" for each plot. At 12 p.m. on Saturday, two cows will be brought out onto the field. If a cow poops on your spot, you win one of three cash prizes. For more information or to buy a $10 plot, contact a football player, Coach Ryan Dunlap at 586-801-6228 or Ferndale Police Chief Tim Collins at 248-867-0063.
