Schakolad is giving chocolate lovers a chance to give back and receive a sweet reward through its annual Easter auction, taking place now.

The grand prize: A three-foot chocolate Easter bunny, with all proceeds donated to The Pink Fund, Schakolad’s April non-profit partner of the month.

“We are committed to being an active member of our local community, and this fundraiser is one way to get all of our friends and neighbors to rally behind a great local cause – with a sweet treat to the highest bidder,” said Douglas Cale, owner of Schakolad Birmingham Chocolate. “Every month, we collaborate with a worthy local non-profit, giving our customers the opportunity to learn about meaningful organizations and help out with the purchase of Schakolad fine chocolates. The Pink Fund supports people battling breast cancer when they need it most, and we are honored to support them.”

This auction is part of Schakolad Birmingham Chocolate's yearlong effort to support local nonprofits. The 3-foot prize Easter bunny will wear a pink ribbon in support of The Pink Fund, which provides financial aid to people battling breast cancer.

Bidders must provide their bid amount as well as email and phone for contacting should they win.

After relocating to its new spot beside Mills Pharmacy, in the midst of the Quarton neighborhood of Birmingham, Schakolad launched its non-profit collaboration initiative to highlight the good works of worthy local organizations. Certain chocolates are designated each month as the ones to buy if you want to benefit the chocolateria’s partner.

Upcoming partnerships include: FAR Conservatory in March; the Pink Fund in April; Birmingham Education Foundation in May; Baldwin House in June; and the Alzheimer’s Association in November. More will be announced as they are selected.
