January 2013 Schedule at the Detroit Institute of Arts

January brings the last opportunity to see the popular special exhibition Faberge: The Rise and Fall, The Collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which ends Monday, Jan. 21.

The museum will be open that Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate Martin Luther King Day.

Included with museum admission are the exhibitions Picasso and Matisse: The DIA’s Prints and Drawings, ending January 6; Hidden Treasures: An Experiment; and Motor City Muse: Detroit Photographs, Then and Now.

Sunday, January 27, noon–4 p.m., Celebration Masks: People from many countries create elaborate costumes to wear in parades and other celebrations. Make your own festive mask for any occasion.

Monday, January 21, Noon–4 p.m., Martin Luther King Day: Books & Bookmarks: Create a unique book by simply folding paper. Then make a bookmark using heavy card stock, linen thread and beads.

Hours and Admission
Museum hours are 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Tuesdays–Thursdays, 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors ages 62+, $4 for ages 6–17, and free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties and DIA members. For membership information, call 313-833-7971.
