Valentine Distilling and the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority invite businesses to come out and enjoy a community-wide open house focused on downtown Ferndale's vision.
The past, present and future of the downtown will be discussed at Valentine Vodka Martini Bart, 161 Vester St., from 5-8 p.m.
The DDA will be putting together a game plan for the district's next ten years and asking the questions: What would you like to see? What new stores? Amenities? What would you do if you got to make ALL the decisions?
Come share your ideas and listen to others.
Light refreshments will be served.
Check out the event on Facebook here.

There is, but it's not very good. The quality of the instruments offered are entry-level at best.

I wasn't able to attend so I'll offer up a few here:
1. I 2nd more trees along downtown. Not only pleasing, shade will help keep energy costs down for those folks on the sunny side of the street.
2. Lockers for backpacks for cyclists.
3. Pay metered solar/wind powered plug-in stations for electric/hybrid vehicles.
4. Hazardous waste receiving station. All materials would be collected and transported to SOCCRA. Old VFW Hall may work for this.
5. Induce businesses to recycle.
6. Focus on adaptive-reuse of buildings. DDA - form a sustainability group that will be in charge of sustainable indicators/yearly report card and advising businesses on historic preservation, sustainability and other creative-based grants and tax credits; and network/refer interested businesses to reputable contractors.
7. Find a way to get that church on 9 mile into the hands of the Historical Museum .. NOW. It's a perfect fit and with this location folks can visit City Hall (a great mid-century modern structure), our library and our Museum all within about a block of each other.
8. Bike racks.
9. Promote “This Day/Week in Ferndale History”.
10. Mixed-use parking structure.
